At the beginning of this year NetApp made the formal decision to define a new company role focused on Cloud Computing. This decision was primarily based on the architecture of our largest customer, T-systems (Duetch Telekom) who is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on our equipment each year. In recent years T-systems has began doing IT hosting for major companies around the world (Shell, BP, etc) and uses a cloud-infrastructure.
My job is to be the sr. technical liason between engineering, support and sales. As much as this is technically challenging, it is moreso politically challenging. When dealing a quarter of a billion dollars per year everyone involved has their own opinions about how things should work and the best ways to accomplish thier goals. Needless to say its like stepping through a political minefield with every step!
